Travel Tips for Jamaica

Travel season is in full swing for Americans looking for a break from the pandemic. While some are looking for a getaway close to home, others are heading to an island paradise. I just got back from Montego Bay, Jamaica for a little rest and relaxation. Although, it was not my first international trip this year, there are some changes to prepare for as you plan your vacation.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when you travel to Jamaica this summer.

Until the requirements change, prepare to show a negative Covid test when you check-in for your flight. You should check with your destination and government websites to know which tests are acceptable. I had to get a rapid test 72 hours before checking in for my flight to Jamaica.

Prepare to wear a mask at the airport and during your flight. And prepare to get a temperature check upon arrival to Jamaica.

You will also be expected to wear a mask while in the public areas of your hotel or resort. But once you hit the beach or pool area, you can unmask. However, servers and hotel employees wear their mask indoors and outdoors.

I also noticed that many people in Jamaica remain unvaccinated for a number of reasons. Most told me that they do not have access to certain vaccines that they are more comfortable with like the Pfizer vaccine. Therefore, it's important to always protect yourself by wearing your mask particularly indoors while traveling to foreign countries.
