How to Save Money on Travel

When it comes to travel, prices are up! But the number one way that I save on travel is by using points and miles and credit cards that offer perks such as late checkout, complimentary breakfast, free flights and hotel rooms. However, there are other ways to save particularly if you are flexible with your travel.

Here are my tips on ways to save while living your best travel life!

Travel Off-season

The best way to avoid the higher fees on hotels and air fare is travel when most people are not. When hotel rates and fees come down you can find good deals without the crowds.

Plan Early to Get the Best Rates

When you are certain of your travel plans there is no time like now to start planning months out. You can even use some travel apps to alert you when prices are down.

Book Your Hotel with Breakfast Included

When you can, it's always a great idea to book breakfast with your room especially when traveling with a friend or partner. One of my credit cards offers free breakfast for two as part of my benefits package. It saves money daily because we all have to eat!

Premium Economy Instead of First Class on Long Flights

When traveling back from the UK, I find that premium economy works just fine when it's an all day flight. I saved more than a $1,000.00 by skipping business class on a recent flight. I still received perks like an elevated meal service, a bigger seat and complimentary amenity kit.

Airport Flexibility

Some airports are more expensive than others to fly in and out of when getting to places like Europe. I saved several hundred dollars by skipping Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson International Airport and flying out of New York's JFK to Italy.

These are just some of the things that I do to save money when traveling.
