When traveling during the flu season there are some
simple things that you can do to stay healthy on your next flight. An
airplane is full of germs and getting sick or contracting a respiratory illness
like COVID-19 is something that can happen.
When I follow a few simple strategies, I avoid getting
sick on an airplane. Here are my tips on
lowering my chances of getting sick.
Since news spread about the coronavirus many travelers
are taking precautions to keep from getting sick. You may see people walking in the airport or
sitting on a plane with a face mask to keep from catching anything.
Wear a Mask
Wear a mask to protect yourself and others. Make sure it's layered appropriately to get the maximum protection possible. Some people also add a shield for added protection.
Keep Your Distance
It's important to keep your distance and now allow others in your breathing space. It lowers the spread of catching a virus.
Window Seat
The first thing that I do is limit my contact with
other passengers. I always go for the
window seat. It’s farther away from the
aisle where people are coming and going.
Drink Lots of Water
While in flight, the air circulating is low humidity. It dries out the mucus membrane in your nose
and that makes you less protected against infections. Drinking water helps to keep you hydrated and helps your body protect itself.
Antibacterial Wipes and Hand Sanitizer
Most people pick up all kinds of germs on flights by
touching the seat, the window, the monitor’s remote, or even the tray
table. I always bring bacterial wipes and
I wipe down my seating area. But after
watching super model Naomi Campbell’s video about her flight preps, I am now wiping down the entire seat and
wall.
It’s also important to keep your
hands clean. I wash my hands frequently
and use hand sanitizer when sitting in my seat.
Bottled Water
I read a report that water from the tap on an airplane
contains high levels of bacteria. I
bring my own bottled water for drinking.
And I avoid getting water from the tap.
I now bring my own tea onboard.
I also use a disposable mini toothbrush. It doesn’t
require water to use.
Travel can take a toll on your body but there are
things that you can do like opening an air vent on a plane and following my
tips to keep you feeling your best. When you arrive at your destination, you'll be ready to enjoy your vacay!
