As the world prepares to ease restrictions on international travel since the global pandemic, scoring a less expensive ticket requires work. But there are five tips that I use to travel, while saving a few dollars.
If you plan to travel to Europe this summer, start securing your airfare and hotels as soon as possible. I plan to travel to Paris and Italy, but prices for flights and hotels are going up. And if you plan to use points and miles, hotels and airlines have increased the amount needed to cash in. So what's a travelista to do?
Here are 5 tips on traveling to Europe this summer for less:
Buy Your Ticket Now
The sooner you purchase your ticket and lock in a fare that you're comfortable with the better. As we move closer into summer months, the prices will go up!
Shop for Midweek Fares
The best time to travel is mid week. I usually fly to Europe on Tuesday or Wednesday. It's also the best way to get ahead of the crowd when fares are lower.
Plan for Early June or Mid August
If you wait until summer is in full swing, you will pay more. The travel industry is trying to recover from a year of financial loss. And the summer is the biggest travel season of the year so expect to pay a lot more. But you can save if you get an early or late jump on the crowd. You can find better deals early June or mid to late August.
Fly Into Another Airport
If you plan to go to Paris for example, try looking for airfares into Belgium or Prague. You can then take a less expensive flight into Paris. And you may even get in another destination in the process if you stay for a day or more before heading to your final destination.
